This weekend sees the start of the 2016 SupaDrift National Drift Series with Round 1 taking place at Red Star Raceway outside of Delmas in Mpumalanga. (Don’t stress, it’s only a few min from Jhb)
The event will see the return of a few old names, a few new cars and unfortunately, the omission of a few key players. Rumour has it that there will be a few Cape Competitors making their way back to the series while we can also look forward to some international flavour, not only from Mozambique (as we are accustomed to) but rather from Namibia – we’re keen to see what they can do.
Unfortunately, Jason Webb is out for the first round, nursing a fractured patella. It is also doubtful that we will see Wade van Zummeren at this first round.
The event is a memorial event in honour of Riaz Alibhai, an ex-competitor who sadly passed away. We hope to see brother, Fayaaz, hold the family name up high.
Practice for the event takes place on Friday 26 February with the main event taking place on Saturday 27 February after a short practice / warm-up session. Gates open at 12pm on Friday and 9am on Saturday.
Entry will cost R80 for adults and R50 for children under 12.
