The time is upon us.
After many months of anxiously waiting, the sixth round of the SupaDrift Series unfolds this weekend. Now it may sound a little strange, getting this excited about a SupaDrift event but the reason for this is twofold, actually there are three reasons.
Yes, the first is the fact that this event will be attended by Redbull drifting legend, Mad Mike Whiddett, known for his outrageous rotary drift machines and radical driving style. It’s one thing to have the man himself here in South Africa, but to have him and his insane, 20b rotary Mazda RX8, is another all together.
We know that he will be doing exhibition runs during the course of the day, but we’re really hoping that he is impressed with the level of skill enough to sway him into entering on the day. Now wouldn’t that be a sight!? Here’s hoping.
We did say that there were three reasons to be excited about at this weekend’s event. The second is the fact that we are anticipating a record number of entries with word that we will see some familiar faces returning to the fold. We won’t spoil the fun just yet, but we can tell you that it will be worth getting down to Carnival City for this event.
And that brings us onto the third point – for the first time ever, SupaDrift will be taking place in a large, cleared out, section of the Carnival City Casino parking lot. This expansive area has been cleared out and and resurfaced, and promises to make a fantastic arena for the competitors with the Big Top Arena and Casino as a picturesque backdrop.
Tickets are available for this weekend’s event through Computicket and at the gate. R120 for adults, R50 for children under 12.
Practice for the event commences on Friday from 12pm while the main event takes place on Saturday 24 September from 9am.
Should you not be able to make it (and you’d need a pretty darn good excuse), you can watch the live stream on our site here: Live Stream
