Well drift fans it has been a well deserved rest for drivers and crews but its about that time again. Drivers will be checking and double checking their off season work, new faces will be preparing themselves for the rigors of competition and the old hands will be hoping to achieve new personal goals and maybe crack that elusive win.
The majority of our local championships kick off in February with the Rock Raceway hosting the first round of the Cambees Midas Drift championship. The Rock has cut down their dates for 2016 and well will only see 8 drift events this season, 5 local and 3 away events.
The National drift series will see drivers return to Red Star Raceway in Delmas for the first event which has been renamed the Riaz Alibhai Memorial Cup in honour of Riaz who was tragically taken from us in a car accident 2 years ago.
The long sweeping corners were a challenge last season and many drivers will have to bring their A game to succeed at Red Star, expect high speeds and insane angle as the drivers put it all on the line to see who will take the first win of the season.
SA Drift wishes all the new and returning drivers a successful and safe 2016 season. Keep an eye out for features on drivers and club events from around the country as we kick off 2016 sideways!
