Welcome back to all our loyal drift fans hope you enjoyed the holidays and are ready for all that 2017 has to throw at you.
The 2017 season is going to kick off soon and I can honestly say that the last 3 months have been an agony filled wait for competition to resume.
To start things off The Rock Raceway has recently released their calendar of events and joy on joy we are back to a drift event the first weekend of every month!
The guys over at Supadrift also sent us a press release with the upcoming plans and a rough calendar for the 2017 season.
Below is a calendar of events proposed for the 2017 National Championship…it starts later than usual and finishes earlier than usual…
You will also notice only 6 x events in 2017 (over 6 x months) of which most of them suffice as Regional competitions too. *We would encourage the Western Cape Regional Drifters to join us at the SD01 event in Kimberley and also at the SD04 event in PE; whereas we are running combined Regionals and Nationals at the same time for the WC Regional season (this is the idea and we will confirm it early on in 2017)
2017 National Championship
1 SupaDrift Series 01 MonsterMob Raceway, Kimberley 28-29 April WC Regional
2 Supadrift Series 02 Dezzi Raceway, Port Shepstone 26-27 May NR & KZN Regional
3 SupaDrift Series 03 Carnival City, Boksburg 30 June – 1 July NR & KZN Regional
4 SupaDrift Series 04 Aldo Scribante Raceway, Port Elizabeth 28-29 July WC Regional
5 SupaDrift Series 05 Dezzi Raceway, Port Shepstone 25-26 Aug NR & KZN Regional
6 SupaDrift Series 06 RedStar Raceway, Mpumulanga 29-30 Sept NR & KZN Regional
Also, we will be running a Drift Matsuri pre-season opener in March sometime at a venue to be announced where you are able to shake down your cars etc.
The Regional Competition dates for the Western Cape (WC), Northern Regions (NR) and KwaZulu Natal (KZN) as well as the Rules and Regs thereto, will be duly sent out in early 2017. The Regional Rule Pack is lenient and allows for some relaxation on certain Rules and Regs; it stands therefore to encourage beginner drifters and Rookies to attend these events and 2-4 times in a year as combined with the Nationals for aspirational and convenience purposes.
The SD Series (National and Regional) is also the precursor and pre-qualifier to an International Competition (October/November 2017) which will also be announced in the first quarter of 2017. The above has been designed so that more drivers chase the Championship from the outset and continue to the last event. This is an exciting change up and one that will improve Driver and Series sponsorship alike. Moreover, we will also be doing the SD Roadshow in Jan and be able to answer more questions and clarify any misconceptions.
So as the drivers prepare, the fans only have a little bit of time left to wait.
Will Championship winners Lee-roy Frans and Shane Gutzeit be ready to defend their titles?
Will we see the return of a few familiar faces?
Could an upstart rookie give the seasoned drivers a new challenge?
